INAUGURAL KPMG SUNMILE POSTPONED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
Organisers of the KPMG SunMile, in conjunction with several stakeholders, reached a decision earlier today (21 February 2017) to postpone the event due to the inclement weather Johannesburg is currently experiencing.
The decision was not an easy one; “Ultimately we want to make sure that every athlete’s experience is going to be an unforgettable one and with the threat of severe rain on race day, we decided that their experience would be significantly compromised. Of course the health and safety of those involved in the organisational setup would also be in danger. We have the full support of the relevant authorities, considering the issues they have to deal with in a difficult week like this. While we have a rain plan for the race hospitality zone, the severity of the predicted rain would bring health and safety into play. We want to bring back the Street Mile with a bang, for participants to run, celebrate and support others: it’s an event that brings people together” says Craig van der Westerhuizen, Race Organiser.
The proposed new date for the event will be 6 April 2017. All entries will be carried over to the revised event date or refunded where necessary.
